  1. Insane spin, just insane. And I say that is the utmost positive way. I’ve always been able to generage good spin with my technique but to have a string actually enhance it in a significant way is pretty cool. This is the first string that I can actually feel the hex shape and man do they bight into the balls.

Since my first high (power and control) and ultimate letdown (stiffness and tension) with the Lux Alu, I’ve used the CF Topspin (full and hybrid with LF SynGut) and WC SilverString. Topspin is forgiving and have good feel for those touch shots. Silverstring has good feel as well in addition to having additional oomph in power.

The MSX Focus Hex is just in a different league from those two for ground strokes. Yep, I’ll concede and agree with other users who have criticized it for lacking feel. I’m an average volleyer and rely on setup and positioning to punch my volleys vs. feeling them into a corner. Yep, my approach chip shot does not have the same feel as before and I’ll trade that for spin, spin, spin.

However, my game is primarily groundstroke heavy hitting with spins and slices to create that heavy ball. The Hex helps me create that with less effort than previous strings. I can now hit my one handed backhand more with topspin than before. The forehand has been enhanced ten fold and most of my shots are topspinned deep into the court. I almost feel like a magician creating crazy spin at anytime — which enables me to sharply angle my groundies anywhere on the court.

I have 8hrs. total playing time with my 1.18mm (18ga) and am very impressed. So much so that I’m thinking for the first time playing tennis, I will be purchasing a reel…but not until I’ve playtested the 1.10mm (18L ga) version next week.

I’m very impressed with this MSV string.

BTW, the black version looks wicked on my K90 — it’s a perfect color for that frame.

  2. Damn what a great string! First of all, it is still a very comfortable poly to hit with; not as comfortable as the SPPP (or PolyPolar for that matter), but on par with the SilverString and and a bit better than the Cyberflash. I think it really shined in a few areas:

    1) consistent response: variations in swing speed were more accurately translated into power generated than with other polys. Sometimes with SPPP, PolyPolar, or especially CyberFlash, I’d try to do a touch volley or a short court push but the ball would still jump off the stringbed. Not so with this string: whack the ball and it goes flying, touch the ball and it stays soft.

    2) spin potential: I wasn’t having my best serve day on Saturday by a long shot, but my kick serve out wide on the ad court was just killer! Backhand slices too were unbeliveable: it really felt like the strings grabbed the ball for a split second and then spit it out low and hard with a nice low skid. This is a great ‘chip-n-charge’ string! On the other hand, hitting a flat shot when I needed it was not a problem.

3)volleys: again it felt like the strings grabbed the ball for a split second and let me really direct it where I wanted it to go. The more consistent response helped too because I could just break my wrist a bit on contact and have the ball die in the open court.

    4) misc: for some reason, the string just felt more ’solid’ (I know that’s a vague term) than the others. Hard hit groundstrokes or blocked service returns just felt wonderfully ‘thick’. It was a good level of power higher than the other strings above, so if I could restring it, I’d probably try 59 or 60lbs to tame it a bit. But that juice came in handy on first serves, and on forehand drives crosscourt.

  3. I strung the MSV Co Focus 1.18 in the i.prestige MP at 27 kg and I have to say that I was very impressed. Very good control, good power and great feel. I cannot say much about durability since I am not a string breaker and I cut it out in the end. The only thing I disliked was the sound of the string…. Sort of metallic… After stringing the strings really felt tighter than I was used to (before I used Signum Pro Poly Plasma) but I was surprised by the great feel. I expected it to be boardy but it didn’t feel like that at all (if you hit the sweetspot at least) Also tension stability was good. I consider buying a reel since it is pretty cheap!

  4. I am currently playing with an aerogel 100 strung with CyberFlash @50lb. I have 2 sets of MSV Hex (18 and 18L) ready to go.
Should I string the same tension of CyberFlash ?
    thank you

  5. somebody in another forum suggested to string mains with MSV Hex 1.10 and crosses with MSV Hex 1.18. Any comments on this setup? Any theoretical advantage/disadvantage compared to the opposite “hybrid” (M=1.18 C=1.10) or full 1.10 or full 1.18?
